Home Ownership Made Easy in Schenectady
When Gary McCarthy took office as Mayor, the first item on his agenda was to address the housing problems in the City. To do so, he undertook an approach to increase home-ownership and reduce the vacant and dilapidated houses. This approach began with an emphasis on code issues and a concerted effort to meet with residents to better understand their needs.
The Mayor then assembled people to form a team that would aggressively attack these concerns. The team was comprised of representatives of area banks and real estate agencies which joined with several Departments from City Hall. This team has committed itself to the hard but rewarding work of turning this City’s housing concerns around and creating an environment that people will want to be part of.
